Makomanai Takino Cemetery
Makomanai Takino Cemetery has a worship area designed by a world-renowned architect, and has recently become popular for its monument of the head Buddha, which is the symbol of the cemetery. The sight is particularly amazing in summer, when the Buddha’s head peers above profusions of lavender on the hill. This exquisite expression of Japanese culture is a must-see.

Mt.Moiwa
The view of Sapporo at night is so beautiful that it was selected as one of the new top three night views in Japan. And one of the best places to see it from is Mt. Moiwa. Try to get there during the “magic hour” just after sunset if you can, then stay for a while and admire the incredible view. There’s even a restaurant in the ropeway station at the top of the mountain, offering a panoramic view of the Sapporo nightscape—a meal doesn’t get more memorable than this.

Tanuki-koji
Tanuki-koji is packed with local restaurants and bars. It’s known for its nightlife such as Japanese-style pubs (izakaya), but there are plenty of stores and restaurants to enjoy in the day too. Mr. Yamanaka can tell you about the best soup curry restaurants, ramen restaurants and other hidden gems in the arcade.

Wash it down with carefully selected sake such as Meikyo-Shisui, a famous brand from Nagano. The proprietress loves a good chat, and will make you feel right at home.
